Helsinki Car Rental / Car Hire
(Helsinki, Finland)

Well connected to the city centre by means of the fast Highway 45 (Tuusula - Helsinki road), Helsinki Vantaa Airport (HEL) offers a range of car rental outlets, including a number of well-known national brands. Helsinki Airport is accessible from the east or west via the Keha III Airport Road and these major routes make driving to and from both of the terminals easy and convenient. As a result of the network of surrounding roads and many nearby areas of interest, the demand for rental cars at Helsinki Airport is relatively high.

Should you be planning on hiring a rental car from Helsinki's Vantaa Airport, it is best to make a reservation in advance, particularly during peak months. Many people hiring a car here choose to travel outside of the city, with popular destinations close by including the city of Espoo, which lies on Finland's southern coastline and is home to the national park of Nuuksio.

Car Rental at Helsinki Airport (HEL): Driving and Parking in Helsinki
Much of central Helsinki is extremely well pedestrianised and together with the network of public transport, means that there is little need to drive in this area. The usual morning and afternoon rush hours can be expected, when traffic grinds to a halt and drivers become frustrated. The Finnish always drive on the right-hand side of the road and therefore overtake on the left. Driving outside Helsinki and around Finland is relatively straightforward, although the winter months of December, January and February can create hazardous, icy stretches.

Helsinki is split into three main parking zones, with Zone 1 being the most central of the three and subsequently the most expensive. Zone 1 is known locally as 'I-vyöhyke' and spaces are charged per hour, with meters being easy to find and accepting most coins or local parking cards.
